The oud in Halston Man Amber absolutely SHITS all over the oud here in terms of smell, complexity, and duration.

What do you expect for the price you might say. It's this terrible combination of sweet, plastic, vinyl and light wood smell that's just not nice. What I can't forgive is how straight up bad the oud note is. I can forgive that too, large amounts of real oud would make your frags double or triple in price. I can forgive that because you're the same fucking company.īut the oud itself is synthetic. First, you're doing the same thing as Montale and putting oud in the title of every scent even if it's not a main note. Mancera's fucking fake ass bullshit house aoud note drops in next, and I have to say this: Mancera, you should be straight up embarassed by how you handle oud. I think this is the mint from the title and it's interesting but not strong or long lasting. The combination of citrus and peppers evokes a sort of ultra dry peppermint type smell, an allusion to mint but not actually smelling like it. The opening is a sinus clearing and very rough blast of peppery, coriander, lemon and orange. It's a smooth and nearly gourmand but it's a far cry from what most people would expect from the name. This fragrance has common points with Eros, JPG Le Male, Chanel Allure Edition Blanche, Reflection, every oud from Montale and Mancera, and Guerlain L'Ideal. Well if there's little to no lemon, little to no mint and little to no aoud what do you get? LET'S FIND OUT. You all know how triggered I get by adjectives in names like EXTREME, INTENSE, Noir, etc so imagine my feelings on this titular failure. And even with that in mind I can safely say there is little to no mint here, if there is it's fleeting and no where near enough to justify the name. And I know what you're going to say: ACHTKUALLY, you can create a note based on other notes interacting even when that note isn't in the pyramid. I know pyramids aren't always reliable but check this out: This fragrance deserves some sort of award for worst name for a fragrance ever because there's barely any aoud, barely any lemon and no mint.
